Septic Service in Snohomish: A Look at Above Ground Septic Sytems

Superior Septic Services is ready to help with your septic service in Snohomish. We’ve often mentioned that below-ground septic tanks need inspection about every three years, but that an above ground system needs to be inspected yearly.

The reason the above ground system needs to be inspected more often is two-fold. First, the waste from your home will need to be pumped into the septic tank, rather than flowing into it using gravity. Pumps, being mechanical, wear out. But the pump isn’t the main issue.

An above ground septic tank works in much the same way as an ordinary in-ground tank. However, because they are usually set up in areas where the soil won’t work well as a leach field, a mound is created to function as the earth filter for the liquids that flow out of the septic tank. The mound is built up by first tilling the surface ground. Then a layer of sand is added, followed by some coarser material such as gravel. Finally, this is covered with soil, and then seeded with grass to prevent erosion. The mound does the same job as a leach field but has greater potential for something to go wrong with it.

Whether your septic tank is a standard gravity feed type, or whether you have an above-ground system, we can help keep it in proper order. If you live in an area too remote to have sewer service, a septic tank is one method for maintaining appropriate home sanitation and meeting county and state standards. A yearly septic service is one way to keep your system working correctly.
